Tim completed his third term as a Trustee in March 2008. He supported the following shared values with his fellow Trustees:
- A community which promotes economic development and actively seeks to enhance business in the downtown and on Pearl Street.
- A community which walks around and visits neighbors and friends on well-maintained sidewalks, roads, and bike paths.
- "Smart growth" development in higher density housing for a variety of income-levels such as Highland Village, Whitcomb 2, Riverside, and 203 Pearl St (Monarch Apartments).
- Protecting our older neighborhoods and discouraging back-yard infill development with stricter zoning regulations.
- Preserving our historic buildings in the village and finding appropriate uses to keep them as public assets so they contribute to a "sense of place".
- A healthy IBM with a continued environment of local support on many issues, including roads, taxes, water; but with an expectation of fair and equitable treatment of current and retired employees.
- A village budget which maintains the low local tax rate but allows us to move forward important projects.
- A good relationship with the Town of Essex as we move forward on common issues.
- Building "assets" for youth through organizations like CHIPS and Teen Center so they feel like involved, valued members of our community.
- Traffic patterns which do not turn residential streets into thoroughfares, keep a high quality of life with safety, and encourage motorists to obey posted speed limits.
- A place where government officials listen respectfully to all points of view and are responsive to local concerns without a lot of bureaucratic red tape.
I want to thank Village President Larry Yandow and the Trustees I served with, Deb Billado, John Lajza, Peter Gustafson, Steve Eustis, and the late Mike Corbin. All of you made serving on the Trustees one of the highlights of my career. this is a Board dedicated to the best interests of the Village. Welcome to George Tyler as a new member in 2008.
